Ask the Horse is the next offering from The Brains Behind Pa. The full-length album is set to be released in late October. It will be available in CD format at that time and eventually on all the usual streaming platforms.
Ask the Horse is the second in a series of three albums that are the result of recording sessions that took place from roughly 2019 to 2024. The band refers to those session as The Pony Expressions Recording Sessions. The first album, Beggars Belief was released in 2025.
While Beggars Belief was a moodier album with songs that addressed the “ugliness of man,” as Bill Price calls it, Ask the Horse covers different territory, both lyrically and sonically. The theme of this record is mainly relationships—both positive and negative. The sound production approach is less atmospheric than Beggars Belief and is more straight forward.
“Tyler and I decided that taking some instruments out of these songs actually let them breathe a bit more. The songs seemed to open up in some way. So for this album, that seemed to be the best approach,” Price says. Tyler Watkins was co-producer with the band on the project. He also engineered, mixed and mastered the album.
Similar to Beggars Belief, the band enlisted outside musicians, including horns, violin and pedal steel guitar, to augment their sound on a few of the tracks.
Much more to come on this upcoming release!
