King of a Hill

Words and music by Bill Price

You'd swear you're on the highest hill - overseeing what the rest of us till
But appointments of old have clouded your view - you survey us all but can see only you
The air up there is sufficient for one - there is space just for you - who've done the things you've done
Never-ending denial leaves you lonely at the top - it's lonelier still when the top is not the top

The highest mountain, you cannot perceive
For your fortress would crumble to the ground - if you believe

There's a place high above from where you are
But you've got to come down to look up and see the stars
There's a view far above that leaves you below
There's a view far above leaving you low - so low

I know there's a higher, holy, honest sort of space - it's pulsing but peaceful and exists full of grace
I've been there before but I always lose my grip - I tried once to tell you but you shot straight from the lip

The highest mountain is not reserved for one
It's humble as a home full of souls you've overrun

There's a place high above from where you are
But you've got to come down to look up and see the stars
There's a view far above that leaves you below
There's a view far above leaving you low - solo
