Gratitude Is...

Words and music by Bill Price

The sun, wind and the rain
Are all we have left to our name
Here at the end of the game
Faced with grace or with blame

I left my camera at home
The view will be none but my own
To see this world and be shown
Feel each step through my flesh to the bone

Life - miracle or math
Ageless - like boulders and thunder
Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder

My dog has her nose in the air
Intense as a monk in mid-prayer
Alive in the moment that's there
It's all we really have to share

Life - miracle or math
Ageless - like boulders and thunder
Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder

God help the children - God bless their dreams
God bless their homes from deserts to streams

God help the brilliant but God bless the kind
God help the faceless and the weak of the mind

God help the king but God bless the art
God hold our hands when we forsake our hearts

God disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed
God humble those whom we raise as superb

God help the profane, the profound and devout
God help those forever left out

God release the child - both infant and old
With faith in the sky - so infinite and bold

God help the mother with space on her shelf
And God don't forget to help yourself

When all we have or we planned

For it must be hard to observe from afar
When you're a star shining here - the child in our hearts

Falls at last from our hands

Refusing the river - so clean and so clear
Clenching our fists - we fight back with fear

And drifts like ashes and sand

While you pour out your love to ease every pain
Still it rolls off our faces like ink with no stain

Love beside us will stand

Adrift in an ocean of apathy and hate
When what can you do but watch and wait

Life - miracle and math
Ageless - like boulders and thunder
Gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder

The sun, the wind and the rain
Are all we have left to our name
It's fair at the end of this game
For it's all that we had when we came
